In this section, we'll discuss the necessary steps to take to download your Facebook information in multiple formats. This will prep you before you learn how to delete facebook account.

You'll also have the option to deactivate your facebook account and continue to use Facebook Messenger or you can completely delete your facebook account.

  1. Go to Facebook and Login
  2. Click on the Account dropdown
  3. Click on "Settings & privacy"
  4. Click on "Settings"
  5. Click on "Your Facebook information"
  6. Click on "Download your information"
  7. Click on "Date range"
  8. Select "All time"
  9. Ensure Everything is Selected
  10. Click on Request a download
  11. Wait until You Get an Email from Facebook that the Download has Completed
  12. Click on "Available Files"
  13. Click on "Download"
  14. Click on Each File to Download
  15. Enter Your Password
  16. Click on Confirm
  17. Click on Confirm to Download
  18. Repeat Steps 13-16 for However Many Files Exist
  19. Go Back to the Download Your Information Page
  20. Click on the "Format" tab
  21. Select JSON
  22. Click on "Date range"
  23. Select "All time"
  24. Ensure Everything is Selected
  25. Click on "Request a download"
  26. REPEAT Steps 11-17 (download the JSON file this time)
  27. Go to the "Tagged Photo Exporter for Facebook" Chrome Extension and Click "Add to Chrome" / "Add to Brave"
  28. Click on "Add Extension"
  29. Go to Facebook and Go to Your Profile
  30. Click on Photos
  31. Click on Photos of You
  32. Open the Browser Extension and Click "Export"
  33. When Indexing is Complete a New Tab Will Open -> Follow the Steps to Download
  34. OPTIONAL: Download Videos
  35. OPTIONAL: Transfer Pages/Apps to Another User
  36. Unzip Your Downloaded Packages and Rename the Folders
  37. Add these Files and Folders to the FBGraveyard -> Facebook Folder
  38. DEACTIVATE/DELETE: Go back to "Your Facebook information" in Settings
  39. Click on "Deactivation and deletion"
  40. Select Whether You'd like to Deactivate or Delete Your Account
  41. Enter Your Password, Confirm, and You're Free :)

This may take a few days if you have a lot of media or had an account for many years Step 11 screenshot

26. REPEAT Steps 11-17 (download the JSON file this time)

27. Go to the "Tagged Photo Exporter for Facebook" Chrome Extension and Click "Add to Chrome" / "Add to Brave"

Facebook will not download 'Photos of You' (aka photos you've been tagged in) even when you download all your information.  This holds a lot of memories so I find this step is essential before deleting FB. Step 27 screenshot

28. Click on "Add Extension"

29. Go to Facebook and Go to Your Profile

32. Open the Browser Extension and Click "Export"

*Note: If it seems to be stuck on "Indexing" you probably have not clicked the "Photos of you" tab.  Even if it's already highlighted and looks selected you must click it.  Check your URL if should have /photosof, not just {your_name}/photos

*Also if you cannot find the browser extension in your toolbar click on the extension icon right next to the icon pictured.  You can then select the Pin icon to keep it in your toolbar. Step 32 screenshot

33. When Indexing is Complete a New Tab Will Open -> Follow the Steps to Download

*Note: If a new page does not open again - click on the extension again and you should a line below the button...

You recently exported ___ photos. Click here to view and save.

34. OPTIONAL: Download Videos

If you'd like to download videos that you were tagged in you will have to manually do this.

35. OPTIONAL: Transfer Pages/Apps to Another User

If you managed pages, events, apps etc. and you want them to stay active - you need to transfer the admin privileges to another user.

36. Unzip Your Downloaded Packages and Rename the Folders

You should have...

  • 1 HTML package

  • 1 JSON package

  • 1 folder with the photos of you (default name is album_files)

  • 1 HTML file (default name is album.html)

In the example photo below - I have 2 folders of HTML data, 1 folder of JSON data, 1 folder containing photos of me, and 1 html file with the photos of me. Step 36 screenshot

37. Add these Files and Folders to the FBGraveyard -> Facebook Folder

Reminder:  You may want to have this folder in a place that is hooked up to a backup (ie. iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) Step 37 screenshot

38. DEACTIVATE/DELETE: Go back to "Your Facebook information" in Settings

39. Click on "Deactivation and deletion"

40. Select Whether You'd like to Deactivate or Delete Your Account

Deactivation:

This can be temporary.

Your account will be disabled and your name and photos will be removed from most things you've shared. You'll be able to continue using Messenger.

Deletion:

This is permanent.

When you delete your Facebook account, you won't be able to retrieve the content or information that you've shared on Facebook. Your Messenger and all of your messages will also be deleted. Step 40 screenshot

41. Enter Your Password, Confirm, and You're Free :)
